Explore Madagascar deep down south..

It’s been a dream and vision for Marc to finally bring a bunch of wave hungry individuals (you) to one of the least visited and most sought after places to go wavekite some hidden and empty surf breaks. Finally we’re able to go and explore the southeastern wave breaks of Madagascar!! We couldn’t be more excited to have booked in a slot on Luna Moon to bring us to the best wavekiting waves in the area. She’s a 132feet classic schooner from the early 20st century, adding a special flavour on top of this unreal trip.

Location & Conditions

Hidden Wavekiting treasures

There are quite a lot of lodges and flatwater kiting places that popped up in the north of the island with great wind conditions. However the proper wavekiting is happening in the southeast!! Most places are fairly remote and it’s a mission to reach them, plus then they’re quite distant from the shore. All this is asking for a ship to anker out there and move between spots easily and fast. The answer to all that is called Luna Moon, a 120year old classic schooner that has been around the corner of this hidden surfing and kiting paradise for quite some time. Only very few kiters have been drawing their lines into the wave faces down there.

Coaching

Learn how to safely ride in remote places

The places we’ll be riding might not be somewhere you’d go on your own. We will provide all the guiding, coaching and safety to allow this. However it’s one of Marc’s goals of that weeks coaching to learn how to approach and ride waves like these on your own, while staying safe and self-sustainable. All that while working on your skills and become a better wavekiter, creating levels of fun and stoke yet to be experienced.

Delicious local food: What and where to eat in Tulear Region?

Our floating restaurant

The food on the Luna Moon ist absolutely incredible and the selecton of fresh seafood that you’ll get on the table is immense and has a short way into the kitchen.

Kitesurfing in Madagascar

The most common and often visited places for kitesurfing in Madagascar are on the Northern end of the island. There have popped up an increasing number of lodges offering great services to the kiting community. In terms of waves the real deal though is happening in the southeastern region of Toliara. It’s harbour is the starting point to reach one of the surf hostels in the Ankao area, from where you’ll still have to take daily trips to the offshore wave breaks.

Weather and seasons: When is the best time to kitesurf in and around Tulear Region?

The waves of the south and southeastern shores of Madagascar are exposed to southerly Indian Ocean swells with its prime swell season being June – July – August. Winds are best starting in August, slightly intensifying September, October. We have therefore picked what promises to produce the best possible conditions.
madaGerry6

Around the area: What else is to explore in Tulear Region?

Madagascar is the worlds fourth-largest island and a hotspot in terms of biodiversity worldwide. Consequently there is a big number of wildlife and natural wealth to discover and travel to.
