The pearl of the Middle East

Oman is known for its strong winds blowing through the summer months. There’s not only the excellent flat water spots that all the freestylers are rediscovering, but there’s surprisingly good wave spots that have drawn us to Oman in 2017 for the first wave clinic there. It’s a great trip that never deceives, which is why we’ve been back every year since.

Location & Conditions

Masirah island and mainland action

Over the years we have put together a wave specific program that maximizes the wave count with as little crowds as possible, also being able to adapt to the wind conditions. You’ll be able to ride some relatively empty and surprisingly good waves. We are focusing on the wave spots on Masirah Island as well as the spot which works best on the mainland.

Coaching

Travel and Coaching Experience

Oman offers great conditions for your waveriding to be guided to the next level up, no matter where you’re currently at. You should be fairly comfortable riding a surfboard, some first experiences with waves is good to have. The trip is a great combo of having a travel and coaching experience at the same time. The coaching part will be passed along by Chris and Arnaud, however Marc will also review part of the daily footage to add some additional input.

Location

Accommodation

Choosing the best for you

Our main priority is to have the best combination of the most convenient accommodation on offer. We are trying to stay as close to the spot with the most comfort possible. For example there was a great hotel with good food straight at the mainland spot, however it has been rundown, so we stayed at a very nice and luxurious hotel closeby – which made up for the drive. Also we want to be able to move as free as possible depending on the conditions, so this will also be a priority. In short we’ll choose the best accommodation with a higher standard in terms of food and catering.

Is this for me?

Explore land and people..

Oman must be the easiest country to travel to in the Arabian Peninsula – even as a woman. The county is very open and western orientated and is easy to explore.

The clinics there are destined to kiters that bring some confidence on a surfboard with them and have a desire to better ride waves at a place that is ideal for this. Oman has a great wind reliability at this time of the year, plus has mellow, small to mid-sized waves that are ideal to play with and improve your waveriding skills.

Not included and to dos

An easy trip to explore the Pearl of the middle East

Oman seems a sketchy place to travel to but it is indeed safe and an easy trip to get some great kitesurfing under the belt.

Not included in the package is:
– Airfares and excess baggage fees
– Rental car (we’re grouping you to share a rental car amongst 3-4 people
– single occupancy upgrades
– Alcoholic beverages are not included – hence not really available either (cheapest and best is to stockup at the duty free on arrival)

How to get there

You will be flying in to Muscat International Airport (MCT) where we’ll meet and drive off into the desert in a convoy of vehicles filled with wave hungry individuals. If you are a resident of the Arabian Peninsula, we will either meet up in Muscat or straight at the first location we’ll go to. This usually is on Masirah Island, but we might adapt to the wind forecast and decide on another schedule of wave spots to visit.

Transportation: How do I get here?

Main entry point into Oman is its International Airport in Muscat, or driving there with the car from Dubai, which is a 4.5 hours drive from Muscat. Oman has great road infrastructure and it’s easy to move around inside the country. Also It’s easy and affordable to rent cars – all the major car rental companies are present. The country lies in between Jemen to the Southeast, Saudi Arabia to the East and UAE in the Northeast.
While Oman does not have a specific cuisine with typical plates of food, it has a wide range of delicious middle eastern cuisine, which makes it a culinary experience, especially also thanks to the supply of fresh seafood.
