Is this for me?

Trip of a lifetime

This is some of the best wavekiting conditions that you can experience. The water is not in tropical colours nor temperatures, but the combination of fairly mellow, super long and glassy waves make it a kitesurfing experience you won’t forget.

It’s necessary to have a good level of being an advanced to expert rider mainly because of the side-offshore winds that prevail and that you’ll need to cross the waves you’re playing in at times. So we need you to be a safe and confident kiter with a minimum experience in the waves for everybody to have the same prime experience. All the rest you’ll learn, plus there’s safety infrastructure at both locations, so it’s never going to be too sketchy of course.

Besides all that Peru is a great and safe place to explore, the time in the Natural Reserve kiting waves on our own in such a great and raw surrounding is something truly special that you’ll keep within for the rest of your life.

Extraordinary all the way..
Pacasmayo is a bit of a small industry town which only attracts local tourism at the most besides the kiters and surfers, not offering much options for living in style. We have secured the possibility of staying in the house on and behind the El Faro Resort overlooking the spot. Moving to Punta Luna then will increase the extraordinary even more..

Rooms

Kite & Sleep

Here’s where you’ll recover from the time on the water..

Pacasmayo Private House Rooms

It's a house usually not for rent and it has four different rooms, all fairly spacious and better than what you'll find in the area otherwise.

Punta Luna Upper Level

The upstairs rooms lead out to the deck and common area.

Punta Luna Beach Level

The rooms are identically equipped. The downstairs rooms lead out to the lower deck and straight to the beach.

Pacasmayo Bedrooms

Another room with views towards the faro and the wave spot

Facilities

Home away from home

At both locations we are in a house with views on the spot, although in a bit different surroundings. Great to experience the small town groove as well as the full immersion into the calm and nature.

Pacasmayo Sunset Deck

Our private platform overlooking the wave spot and the whole area as such.

Punta Luna Surf Lodge

Home and base to an incredible time out in the natural reserve.

Punta Luna Upper Deck

It's like having two worlds combined - ours with all the commodities of a nice house - and the nature, the beach, the stars on the other side

Wave kiting at its finest

Peru is well known in the surfing world for providing some of the longest lefts for surfing. There’s also some jewels for kiting since there are fairly consistent thermal winds blessing the coastline from April to November with side-offshore winds working well together with its lefthander waves that are mainly picking up southerly swells at that time of the year.

Kitesurf wave clinics in Peru:

Marc has been coming to Peru since 2004 and has accumulated quite some experience traveling around Northern Perus coastline, visiting all the different wave kiting locations. He was actually one of the first ones to kitesurf at Pacasmayo and helping to put it on the map with various articles in magazines before it got the goto place for waves in Sout America. After trying various combination of spots visited with the Kitesurf Wave Clinic, what he has on offer now is the outcome of 10 years running wave clinics in Peru, making sure you get the essence of what the country has to offer.

Transportation: How do I get here?

Main arrival airport in Peru is Lima. From there you can travel north either by bus (the cheap, more backpacker style way – or you fly to either Trujillo, Chiclayo or Piura. For accessing Pacasmayo you can either fly to Chiclayo or Trujillo – both at equal distance. Trujillo might be a bit closer and definitely the airport to choose if you’re also visiting Chicama, another legendary wave spot (surfing/foiling/wingfoiling) south of Pacasmayo. If you combine Punta Luna with Pacasmayo, then Chiclayo is ideal as it lies roughly in between. For Punta Luna only you’d chose Pirua Airport as it’s closes to the Lodge inside the Illescas Natural Reserve.

Delicious local food: What and where to eat in Pacasmayo & Punta Luna?

There is nowhere elso to go eat in Punta Luna than the Maria’s kitchen right in the Lodge. She cooks very tasty and yummy food – it’s actually almost not possible to kite enough to keep the food intake at level with the energy spent at sea.

The history of Punta Luna

It was legendary Peruvian surfer Fernando “Wawa” Paraud who was also a kitesurf pioneer, known for his charm, good vibe and charger spirit, that discovered the spot and named it Punta Luna. It was a hidden game, which he only shared with his closest friends, one of which was Martin Vari, a Cabrinha team mate of Marc in the early kiting years. Wawa and his friends kept it quiet for 15 years, surfing perfect waves with no one else around. After Wawa’s passing, it took some time utnil Martin and his wife Ana took over the management of the lodge to keep it well maintained and to keep Wawa’s spirit going.

Kitesurfing in Peru

Punta Luna lies on one of the most western points of South America and is actually blessed with most wind of all the known spots. With small and medium sized waves it’s a pretty easy spot, the waves have a bit more punch to it than for example Pacasmayo, which is nice especially when its smaller. On the very big days the wave tends to be fairly quick making it a challenge to really keep up, but since the waves are so glassy it makes it easier to stay in control an get out in time.

Weather and seasons: When is the best time to kitesurf in and around Pacasmayo & Punta Luna?

The wind season in Northern Peru is from April to November. It’s blowing through all the southern hemisphere winter. Mai/June is the nicest as there’s still a bid of summer warmth around, the fog hasn’t moved in all that much towards the coastline, and there’s a good chance of getting some prime swell activity from the southern ocean.
DJI_0076

Around the area: What else is to explore in Pacasmayo & Punta Luna?

The Surf Lodge is the only establishment inside the Illescas Natural Reserve which consists of thirty eight thousand hectares. There is raw nature around you with heaps of wildlife, including the Andean Condors, Bluefooted Boobies, Penguins, Pelicans, Sealions, Foxes and more. There’s strolls up and down the coastline, around the dunes, up onto the mountains etcetc.
