Ride the Ultimate Waves in Peru

Experience world-class wave kiting at our exclusive Kitesurf Wave Party at Punta Luna, in the Illescas National Reserve, Peru. Nestled along the stunning northern coastline, this already legendary spot offers long, glassy waves, consistent wind, and uncrowded sessions – perfect for riders looking to push their limits. Our venue provides the ultimate playground for wave kiters, chasing pristine, remote waves out in wilderness. Pure adventure, epic conditions, and an unforgettable experience await!

Coaching

Playful waves in the pacific ocean

There’s only very few places like Punta Luna that we’re privileged to have exclusive access to the waves out the front. It’s a small playground that we have just for ourselves, plus we’ll have all the toys to make the most out of it. This is a special week with expert guiding from Marc and Martin. It doesn’t have the structure and deeper Wave Coaching of a regular Wave Clinic, but there couldn’t be any more unique moments packed into 8 days on and off the water.

Is this for me?

Unique and magical trip

You have either taken part at one of Marc’s Kitesurf Wave Clinics or are a good and very experienced wave rider, may it be in kitesurfing or wingfoiling, with a desire to spend an unforgettable week with like-minded people, maybe try some foiling behind a jet-ski , or get towed into some waves if you have some experience already in foiling.

There are more ways to use the playground out the front the lodge – may it be surfing, standuppaddling, windsurfing, parawinging..etc. All this is happening away from any crowds in an unreal location, we’ll be fortunate to hang out and have fun at.

The main thing is that you’ll need to be confident and skilled enough to handle wind and waves on your own. And open to have a great time, curious to explore some other parts that you probably wouldn’t go, if you didn’t have somebody to bringt you there..;)

Schedule

Our program

Weekly Schedule
The program

The schedule is that there is no schedule - it's all programmed around the wave and wind conditions.

When it's good to do something in the ocean - we'll be there. If there's a time we don't miss out too much on that side, we'll do some exploring into the reserve, that we usually don't do during the clinics, as we're busy with coaching, video reviews, maximising the time on the water.

26 May 2025  arrival day in Piura and shuttle into the reserve
26 May - 04 June 2025  9 action packed days of the Punta Luna Wave Party
04 June 2025  departure from Punta Luna Surf Lodge

Daily schedule
No-wind mornings

Depending on swell activity, tides and glassyness of the ocean there's option for:

  • tow-foil sessions out of this world (small to mid-sized waves)
  • tow-surf sessions when it's bigger than that
  • surfing or standup paddling on smaller days in front of the lodge
  • surf trips within the reserve when it's pumping
  • checking out the sea lions or other wildlife when it's flat
  • chill and enjoy the calm from the hammock
  • etc...
Daily schedule
Afternoons

The event Punta Luna Wave Party promises to be an evening of elegance and entertainment by the beach. Guests are invited to indulge in the rhythmic ambiance of breaking waves under the starlit sky. This

The wind is usually filling in between 11 and 1 - then the action is on, whether

  • kitesurfing
  • wingfoiling
  • windsurfing
  • parawinging

Come and join the party!!

There is no better opportunity to have a sunset drink in the house overlooking the spot than at the Surf Lodge after an action-packed afternoon. Also there might be some of this action to be watched on screen, followed by a delicious dinner - what else could you wish for?

Wave Coaching Expertise
There won’t be any wave coaching in the style and intensity as it is during Marc’s wave clinics. If that’s what you’re after – then look for open spots in the the two clinics preceding the Party week..;) However expect to be guided and get some pointers here and there, plus we’re looking out for each other on the water – as we are a bit remote there after all. There’s also a jetski we can use for emergencies, plus we’ll have pickup truck at the lodge in case of medical emergencies or the like. All these services are not provided during regular stays at the lodge. It’s safer and more enjoyable to be sharing the fun on the water – rather than just being out on the water alone with the sea lions only.

Your coach

Marc Ramseier

Martin and Marc were both part of the Cabrinha Team and competing together in the early years of the kitesurfing, Martin being more successful and becoming two-time world champion. It’s thanks to Punta Luna that they have reconnected a few years ago, as Martin took over the previous privately owned lodge and started to open it to the public in order to be able to keep it the jewel it is. There is nobody else that has spent so much time at Punta Luna as Martin, so there’s nobody else you’d wish for to have there with you while exploring the ocean- and landside. Also Marc was fortunate enough in the past four years to have spent 3-6 weeks every year at the lodge running his wave clinics, so you couldn’t get a better team to kitesurf or wingfoil with, or getting pulled into some wave with the ski from.

Wave kiting at its finest

Peru is well known in the surfing world for providing some of the longest lefts for surfing. There’s also some jewels for kiting since there are fairly consistent thermal winds blessing the coastline from April to November with side-offshore winds working well together with its lefthander waves that are mainly picking up southerly swells at that time of the year.

Transportation: How do I get here?

Main arrival airport in Peru is Lima. From there you can travel north either by bus (the cheap, more backpacker style way – or you fly to either Trujillo, Chiclayo or Piura. For accessing the Lodge inside the Illescas Natural Reserve Piura is closest. If you combine Punta Luna with Pacasmayo, then Chiclayo is ideal as it lies roughly in between. Trujillo lies south of Pacasmayo but is a great entry point if you combine it with Chicama which lies even further south.

Delicious local food: What and where to eat in Punta Luna?

There is nowhere elso to go eat in Punta Luna than the Maria’s kitchen right in the Lodge. She cooks very tasty and yummy food – it’s actually almost not possible to kite enough to keep the food intake at level with the energy spent at sea.

The history of Punta Luna

It was legendary Peruvian surfer Fernando “Wawa” Paraud who was also a kitesurf pioneer, known for his charm, good vibe and charger spirit, that discovered the spot and named it Punta Luna. It was a hidden game, which he only shared with his closest friends, one of which was Martin Vari, a Cabrinha team mate of Marc in the early kiting years. Wawa and his friends kept it quiet for 15 years, surfing perfect waves with no one else around. After Wawa’s passing, it took some time utnil Martin and his wife Ana took over the management of the lodge to keep it well maintained and to keep Wawa’s spirit going.

Kitesurfing in Peru

Punta Luna lies on one of the most western points of South America and is actually blessed with most wind of all the known spots. With small and medium sized waves it’s a pretty easy spot, the waves have a bit more punch to it than for example Pacasmayo, which is nice especially when its smaller. On the very big days the wave tends to be fairly quick making it a challenge to really keep up, but since the waves are so glassy it makes it easier to stay in control an get out in time.

Weather and seasons: When is the best time to kitesurf in and around Punta Luna?

The wind season in Northern Peru is from April to November. It’s blowing through all the southern hemisphere winter. Mai/June is the nicest as there’s still a bid of summer warmth around, the fog hasn’t moved in all that much towards the coastline, and there’s a good chance of getting some prime swell activity from the southern ocean.
DJI_0076

Around the area: What else is to explore in Punta Luna?

The Surf Lodge is the only establishment inside the Illescas Natural Reserve which consists of thirty eight thousand hectares. There is raw nature around you with heaps of wildlife, including the Andean Condors, Bluefooted Boobies, Penguins, Pelicans, Sealions, Foxes and more. There’s strolls up and down the coastline, around the dunes, up onto the mountains etcetc.
